Personal Profile
Simon began his career at Deloitte in 1989 and has spent the last thirty-seven years looking at businesses from almost every angle that matters. As an accountant and auditor, a CFO, an operator, and for two decades as a senior analyst and Managing Director at some of the world's leading investment banks.
The operating years came first. CFO and Group General Manager of a high-growth consumer franchise, where he structured project-style bank financing for a manufacturing scale-up, then relocated to the UK to lead European expansion across six countries. After that, national P&L responsibility at one of Australia and New Zealand's largest service businesses, restoring profitability and delivering enhanced customer experience. Then onto Woolworths, delivering a benefits realisation program for significant capital initiatives inside a multi-billion-dollar transformation program.
By the time he moved into capital markets in 2004, he understood how businesses actually worked from the inside. That mattered.
Two decades followed as a senior equities analyst covering industrial and capital-intensive businesses at global investment banks. The work meant advising institutional investors across the US, EMEA and Asia, scrutinising and dealing directly boards and executives on strategy, capital allocation and performance, and helping listed companies understand how they were seen by the market.
Fabius draws on all of it. The technical grounding to read a business properly. The operating experience to understand what owners are actually dealing with. The markets experience to understand how decisions look from the outside and where value does or does not exist.
Over thirty-seven years of watching what happens when the advisers in the room have their own outcome to protect.
That is the gap Fabius is built to close.
Simon holds an MBA from Macquarie Graduate School of Management, where he received the University Medal, and a Bachelor of Economics in Accounting and Finance. He is an Affiliate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has lectured in the Macquarie MBA program since 2002.
He is based in Sydney, Australia.
